LaViv, A New Natural Filler, Was Just FDA-Approved!

On June 21, 2011 a new filler was approved by the FDA.  This filler, laViv, is unique in that it is a personalized filler to help patients fill in their smile lines.  A sample of skin is taken from the patient, and then it is processed by Fibrocell Sciences to grow fibroblasts.  These cells naturally produce collagen, the building block of the skin.  After 90 days, the cells are sent back to the doctor's office, where they are injected monthly in three sessions.  Smile lines are reduced by the new collagen.  How long this collagen lasts remains to be seen, but preliminary studies show improvement after 6 months.
